Socktober

I signed up for Socktober-fest with the hope that it would get me back on the sock bandwagon. So we'll start with Lolly's sock questionnaire...

When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I knitted my first and second pairs of socks in July '04. Both used Lion Brand Magic Stripes. Jody taught Kathy and I how to knit socks on two circulars at knitting night (after we broke off from the main group and formed our own).

What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
That first pair is still intacted and I wear them occasionally, but the yarn isn't the softest.

What would you have done differently?
I'd suggest starting with a great, soft yarn.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
I've enjoyed hand-dyed yarns in unique colors. My fav is Toasty Toes, but I still haven't used Trekking or Koigu yet. Regia is nice too.

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
Two circs all the time. I'm trying to get into knitting 2 simultaneously.

Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
Short-rows are more fun and easier!

How many pairs have you made?
To date, 18.5 pairs. I have 2.5 on the needles at various stages of completion.

Check out my socks in my Sock Gallery!

Du-ude. 18.5? Really?
Wow. You are a knitting fiend. :-)
