Touche Me Tank

Thanks for all of the advice on "fixing/finishing" the tank. It turned out completely different than I had envisioned, probably because I used pieces of everyone's advice and continued winging it.

I do like it although it needs a tank top underneath to be a bit more modest. I think I'll try wearing it tomorrow or Tuesday to see how I truly feel about it.

Too much Wii...

not enough knitting.

I started on the the Summertime Tunic from Interweave with the Sojabana that I bought to make a sweater of my own design. Looking at the Tunic again I really kind of liked it. So much so that I've forged ahead in knitting knowing full well that I don't have enough yarn.

I've also been plugging away at the RSC kit Solstice Slip.

However, I think I'm going to have to put these aside and focus my knitting time on finishing up my sockapalooza socks since those have to ship by the end of the month (I think). But of course, I need to go play some more Wario Ware first...

The last few days and the next few days are super busy. Tuesday we did a bunch of wedding type stuff. Kevin's sister came out Wednesday and is staying through Sunday. Yesterday we had a fun shopping day in the city with my mom, who found a great dress for the wedding. Today we're heading out to the Bronx Zoo; hopefully, I'll remember to bring my camera!

The Bronx Zoo

When you take 176 photos and 4 videos at the zoo, it can be very difficult to sort through them all and figure out how to put them all on the internet. But I finally did it (which means I can delete the pics from my camera and have knitting content to show next time).

See all of our pictures from the Bronx Zoo here.

Here's a video of the super cute tree kangaroos. It is a mommy and baby.

And because it was while watching them that I realized I could take videos on my camera, here's another.

Here's some footage of monkey grooming behavior.

And finally, here's the panthers. (That's Kevin's sister talking about the monkeys across the way taunting the panthers. I had no idea that the camera also recorded sound!)

Friday Feast

I need to start posting more often... hopefully later tonight or tomorrow I'll have some knitting progress to show off!

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how much do enjoy watching sports on television?

7, if by sports you mean baseball and specifically the Mets. Everything else is probably a 1.

Soup
If you could completely memorize any one work of fiction, which one would you pick?

"Straight Man" by Richard Russo. Because it is currently one of my favorite books and keeping in mind the main characters "struggles" as an academic might be useful to keep in mind as I start my own academic career.

Salad
What is your favorite breakfast food?

Bacon. But usually not as part of breakfast. Generally I don't eat breakfast, I don't like it (unless it is breakfast for dinner). I'm not hungry when I wake up.

Main Course
Name something fun you can do for less than $10.00.

Read a magazine?

Dessert
How long does it usually take you to fall asleep?

10-15 minutes on most nights.

Sockapalooza Socks

twistedsockapalooza5.JPG

I just finished these not more than 15 minutes ago and about two weeks under the deadline. *sigh of relief* I love these socks, I want to keep them for myself. It is a good thing my pal's feet are bigger than mine, so it would take significant work to keep these as my own.

Cookie A's pattern was divine. I modified it by knitting a plain heel and foot so that my pal can wear them with shoes. I can't wait to start on my next Cookie A sock (of course, ignoring all of those other socks in progress...)

New projects, new yarn, new Guitar Hero

A very super friend got me a very special gift certificate to a very special store. It didn't take me very long to run out the door and spend, spend, spend!

07stash43.JPG
I've dreamt of this yarn (Colinette Jitterbug) since I first saw it at another yarn store back in the winter. I would visit it and pet it, but never bought it. Until now!!! Now I can pet it and hug it at home. Something about the rainbow of colors makes me soooo happy. And speaking of happy colors...

07stash44.JPG
It is like sunshine in a yarn! I got four skeins of this lovely Manos Cotton Stria. I think I want to make a big, cozy scarf for the winter that will remind me of sunshine and warmth.

But instead of casting on projects with these, I started two other new projects. Surprisingly, both are nonsocks.

summershrug1.JPG
This is the IK Summertime Tunic reinvented, and not as a tunic. I finally realized that my lack of enough yarn to finish it was indeed not something to blindly try to ignore anymore. I thought of trying to get more of the same yarn, but you saw what I came home with instead. I did originally get this yarn to make myself a top-down something or other. It is now becoming a top-down summery shrug. As with the red tank I finished a few weeks ago, I'm just doing what the yarn tells me and hoping it works out.

circularblanket1.JPG
And then there's this. I had bought all of this Lion Brand Homespun to make a blanket as a thank you for some friends, but the yarn just sat and sat. Then over the weekend I saw this pattern on Ravelry for a circular blanket and I thought it looked so cool and simple, that I broke out the Homespun and got started. A blanket in July, yes I am crazy.

Although all of this knitting has taken a backseat to the new Guitar Hero 80s that came out on Tuesday. Kevin and I were at Target first thing to get our hands on it. (There's 2 Targets each within 20 minutes of our new place. But as it turns out I have zero ability to properly write down the directions to any store called Target. The first one that we ventured to resulted in a huge detour in the complete wrong direction. The second involved me writing a 5 for a 2 and some guess work in figuring out the appropriate street. I think my subconscious is trying to keep me out of the Target!). I've already conquered 29 of the 30 songs on hard. The soundtrack is really good, there are only a few "eh" songs. Now if only they'd create Bon Jovi Guitar Hero...

Appetizer
Describe a toy you remember from your childhood.

seal.JPG
This little seal is actually sitting with my yarn (well was, now it is by the computer). I don't remember exactly when or where he was obtained, but probably a trip to Sea World or something similar. I can remember taking him to school with me in 3rd or 4th grade and hiding him in my desk. He's got a permanent crease around his neck because I used to tie ribbons around it. He's got some red on his left flipper because I pretended he was "injured." He's lasted a long time, but is starting to lose his fur.

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how observant are you?

5 or so. It really depends on focusing attention on something. If I'm paying attention I'll catch more things, if I don't care, I'll miss more.

Salad
Where would you rather be at this very moment?

Back in bed snuggling and sleeping.

Main Course
When was the last time you learned something new?

A few minutes ago. Do you watch that show "How It's Made" on the Discovery Channel? This morning I learned how they make parking meters and golf balls.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I have ____________ but I haven’t ____________.

I have many pretty shoes, but I haven't learned that the always hurt my feet.

One Sock

firebird2.JPG

It seems like this sock took forever to finish, but once I gave it a little attention it was pretty quickly completed.

firebird3.JPG

Of course, now I have to complete the second sock. Which needs to be finished by August 20th or so, in order to be completed before the next sock club installment ships out.

Oh wow, I just totally remembered part of a dream that I had last night. I dreamt that after I finished this sock, I noticed that me needles looked different. One circular needle was a size 0 and the other was a size 3, and the sock was deformed. Very weird.

The Breadman Cometh

breadman.jpg

The coolest shower gift thus far as been the bread machine my grandmom got me. Unfortunately it was the only thing that couldn't be crammed into my car on the ride home from the shower a few weekends ago. This weekend my parents came up to visit and brought it up with them.

A few hours ago, I used it to make some of my grandmom's famous cinnamon buns. They came out pretty good. I still need to perfect my rolling and cutting techniques, and I haven't figured out how to make them super gooey. But the machine worked great at mixing and kneading, and doing all of the hard work.

Right now I've got some basic bread working in the machine. I can't wait to taste it!! (I'll try to get a picture before it is devoured.)
