June Archives

June 30, 2004
Well, last night I just couldn't bring myself to work on the sleeves for the cardi.  I'm so bored with them and only 1/3 finished.  Ugh!  So that lack of motivation actually inspired me to work on Shake some more.  In under three hours, I completed this:

The picture is horrible (what is wrong with you digital camera?), but you get the point.  Well, hopefully you realize it is a tiny glove that will be Shake's left hand.  Kevin couldn't figure it out when I first tossed it to him after I finished.  I need to stuff it and sew it on, and then remember how I made it so I can make the right hand.  I just want to state again for the record that double pointed needles and I do not get along well.

In a couple hours, I'm going over to the old apartment to turn in the keys.  We are finally completed moved in and just about everything is set up.  There are a couple of shelves to hang and a few odds and ends waiting for a home, but otherwise everything is great!

Time to go get some stuff accomplished so I can relax and enjoy dinner and knitting tonight!!!

June 29, 2004
Not much going on today.  I have a meeting later and Kevin and I have to try to move a huge couch out of the old apartment before we turn in the keys tomorrow.  I'm still knitting away at the sleeves for the cardi.  Despite doing many, many rows, the damn things don't seem to be growing (well, not growing longer, only wider).  If I put some effort into it tonight, maybe I can get them close to finished.

Remember the "Open to Sharing" thing?  How can you not, it is at the top of my bloggy?!  Surfing along the blogs this morning, I found someone new (well, new to me!) sporting my button.  Rock on, Boogie Knits!!

Ok, so now I just typed in "Open to Sharing" + knitting into google and found some more blogs!  Yeah for sharing!!!

The Lion and the Lamb
Zeneedle

That's all I could find in my short search.  And we (well, I) already know Erica and Annie have the button.  So if anyone sees others (and I'm sure there are others) or has it on their blog, drop me a line... I'm very fascinated now to know how far the little button has traveled.

Oh no, my dad's b-day was Saturday and I'm going home today for dinner with my family to celebrate and I have no gift for him, no ideas for a gift, and more importantly, no money for a gift!  What's a girl to do?!?!  Brainstorm... maybe I can tell him that I'm planning on knitting him a scarf/hat/socks/sweater (?) and it will take a while, but be worth it.  Just might work... so add another project to the list!

In non-panicking mode, because of moving, we had to upgrade from regular cable to digital cable.  We took the simplest package, but there are still all these extra channels.  My most favorite thus far is VH1 Classic.  A music channel that plays music (videos!!!)!!!!!!!!!  Lots of music from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s.  Just what I love!  Anytime I get control of the remote, I'm always tuning in.  The other cool thing I found is some Nickelodeon derivative that is showing My So-Called Life!  I loved that show and have always want to watch it again (and am not willing to pay a fortune for the DVD).  So much tv to watch... I mean, knit while watching... I mean, I really shouldn't be watching because there is school stuff to do...

Which leads to another panicking mode... my summer class starts in two weeks and I have one lecture completed.  And that's the easy first day lecture.  Ack!  I should go do work now...

Presenting Cardi in the guise of a vest...

I definitely look goofy in this picture.  And why does cardi look lopsided?!  Trust me it isn't!  I really like how the v-neck turned out instead of the high neck with collar in the pattern.  The length is perfect too, falling right around my hips.  I cast on for the sleeves this morning, but since I'm knitting them at the same time (so they are the same size!) it is a little slow.

After some morning knitting, I decided to go on an adventure to find some sewing machine oil.  Fortunately I started this adventure on the phone because I didn't feel like driving all over to find it.  Neither Michael's or AC Moore carry sewing machine oil.  I finally got lucky that the Rag Shop (who has terrible knitting/yarn selections) had some.  So off to the Rag Shop I went and got the oil.  Of course this is on Rt 18 and in order to get back in the direction I needed to go home (North), I had to drive a little farther South and make a u-turn, and don't you know that puts me right at AC Moore.  Being the yarn addict that I am (and knowing that Jody is going to be giving a little lesson on knitting socks on two circular needles on Wednesday at the unofficial meetup and knowing that I want to learn to knit socks), I had to stop in.  I bought two size 3 circulars and some Magic Striping Sock yarn.  The girl at the register gave me 50% off because... well I don't know exactly why, but I wasn't going to say no!  So I'm ready for some sock learning.

Just a recap of current projects...
1. Cardi:  Need two sleeves and maybe some kind of front closure (buttons, belt...)
2. Aqua Teens: Shake needs hands and a straw.  Frylock, not even started.
3. Faux-suede Wrap: On hold because garter stitch is boring.
4. Socks: New project starting Wednesday!!!!!

So back to the sewing machine oil (I'm sorry I'm all over the place tonight!).  I get the oil home and start opening up the machine and squirting oil in all the spots indicated in the manual.  I don't think I've mentioned before, but my sewing machine used to belong to my mom, who barely used it and who got it in the early seventies when she got married.  So this sewing machine is at least as old as I am, if not older.  After oiling it up and putting all the covers and screws back in, the damn thing is still squeaking like a bird is being slowly crushed inside.  For the next 30 minutes I opened, reopened, and oiled, and re-oiled until finally the squeaking stopped (turns out the squeaking was from a place the manual never mentioned to oil).  With the machine back in working condition, I finished the 4th bedroom curtain and the living room curtains.  Here are our glorious living room curtains...

Closed and Opened!

What is the pattern?

Mets Mets Mets Mets!!!!!!

It is always so much fun to meet a new knitting buddy, especially when you get nearly 7 inches of progress on a cardigan.  Check out Candy along Cardi now:

I've completed the back and am just starting on the fronts.  Instead of doing the neck as suggested in the pattern (Family Circle Easy Knitting Spring/Summer 2004 #17), which involves adding a collar later, I'm thinking of just decreasing along the inner edges to create a slight v-neck.  This cardi is not intended to be fitted, and I'm envisioning wrapping it around myself to be snuggly and warm, so I really don't want a collar.  I figure with a couple of hours tonight, I can finish the fronts.  Then it is on to the sleeves!

Political stuff ahead...
We saw Fahrenheit 9/11 last night.  Every showing of it was sold out (good thing we got tickets ahead of time) and it was playing in the biggest theaters!  The movie was wonderful and very emotional.  I was crying for a good portion because of how many Americans, Iraqis, Afganhis, and others have died for absolutely no reason.  The atrocities that Bush and his buddies have commited make me so angry.  So if you haven't seen this movie yet, GO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!  And then be sure to vote in November (and NOT for Bush!!)

June 25, 2004
Yesterday, Kevin, Bernie, and I went to see the Mets play the Reds.  The Mets have been winning recently and Tom Glavine (with a league leading ERA) was pitching, so it was our best chance to see them win.  (So far, out of 6 trips to Shea with Kevin and Bernie and 2 trips with just Kevin, I have never seen the Mets win).  Through the first couple of innings, the Reds were leading 1-0, and then Jose Reyes hit a home run and the Mets were up 2-1.  In the seventh, the bases were loaded with Reds with 2 outs.  It was very tense in the stadium, but the pitcher got Ken Griffey, Jr. to fly out to center field.  Everyone cheered thinking "fly ball to center field, inning over, Mets still winning."  Don't you know, Mike Cameron in center field, drops the ball.  HE FREAKIN' DROPS THE BALL!!!!  The Reds score 5 runs in the inning, and yet again, I see the Mets lose.  And yet again, it is a depressingly long subway ride back to Times Square on the 7 train, and a depressingly long train ride back to NJ from Penn Station.  So that was my day yesterday.

Today should be much better.  I'm going to spend a little time putting more things away, and then I'm going to go meet a new knitting buddy at the Starbucks.  Kevin and I are going to a dinner/party at his advisor's house.  Then we are going to see Fahrenheit 9/11.  Everyone should go see Fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend!!!  (Click on the link and go watch the trailer if you're not convinced you should see this movie!)

Yesterday I took my car into the shop and got a rental through Enterprise.  I will now be driving a Dodge Stratus for a week or two.  Let me tell you, this car is huge!!  And it is definitely not made for a short driver.  I have to have the seat up fairly far, which makes the brake feel too close, and the gas pedal too far away.  Everytime I drive in it though, I think of the Will Ferrell SNL sketch where he is yelling "I drive a Dodge Stratus" as a means of establishing how much status he has.  Hahaha.

I haven't been doing much knitting because I've been trying to put everything away here and clean up the old place.  Because the bedroom is so bright, we decided to get some fabric so I could make curtains for us.  So far I've made three curtains (lined!!).  Here's a picture of two of them:

Here's a close up of the pattern on the fabric:
BLUE FLAMES!!  How cool is that?!  These curtains look so awesome.  I only completed three curtains because my sewing machine sounds so though a bird is slowly being killed inside of it.  Basically, no more sewing until I can find some sewing oil and clean up the machine.  So I still have one curtain for a window in the bedroom, and one big curtain for the door to the sun room in the bedroom.  I also have material for the two windows in the living room (but you'll have to wait to see the fabric for that!!!)

I do have a knitting photo for you.  This is lemonade scarf:

Yummy!!!

June 22, 2004
Good morning!  Last night was the first night we spent in our new place!!  While there are still so many things to do (unpack, bring over the remaining stuff at the old place and clean the old place), one of the things I need to do ASAP is make some curtains for the bedroom.

Knitting news...
Shake's lid.  I'm my pondering how to knit a flat circle, by pure luck, Alison at the Blue Blog had just started the fiesta tea set and I noticed the the saucer was essentially a flat circle.  I checked out the online pattern and decided to give it a whirl.  Here's what I got:

Now this is after an hour or so on size 8 DPNs.  It is not nearly big enough to fit Shake's head and it was going soooooo slow.  So as you can see, I bound off, but left a loop so I could pick up my crochet needle and follow the pattern but with crochet.  Once I started double crochets it grew so big, so fast!
Gorgeous!  And it looks wonderful atop Shake's head/lid (whatever)!
I'm nearing completion now on Shake.  I have to embroider his chin and possibly redo his eyes.  I have to make a straw and two hands (which are essentially going to be two little gloves).

Candy along cardi.  I'm nearly to the divide and decrease for the armholes.  Sorry, there's no picture, but it looks the same as the one below, just longer.

Candy along scarf.  You know the feeling of getting new yarn and telling yourself, this has to wait until I finish something and then I'll pick it up, and you find yourself looking at the new yarn and touching it, caressing it until you cave and start knitting.  Yep, that's what happened with the Deco and Fizz lemonade colored yarn.  The scarf is so pretty, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see it!

Car news...
So here's the story.  Thursday night we are hanging at Bernie and Mary's house sitting/ cat sitting.  After eating some dinner and listening to some big thunder, everything is fairly quiet as Kevin plays some Vice City and I knit.  Then BAM! (and not like Emril).  There is this crashing sound and the house shakes.  My first thought was that the dryer exploded (I was currently doing laundry and have this strange paranoia about dryers).  Kevin being much smarter thought of a tree.  We ran around the house looking out the windows, until we looked out the front door and saw tons of branches and leaves blocking the way down the front porch steps.  From the front porch we saw that two huge branches fell to the left and right of the house.  The one hit the gutter and pulled down the cable wire, but otherwise the house was unharmed.  However, my car was parked in the driveway right where the tree landed.  I was freaking out, envisioning the roof caved in, windows broken, and other horrible things.  The police came, the neighbors came, and finally an hour or so later, the tree guys came.  They spent about 2 1/2 hours removing the tree branches, and had to stop at 12:30am because it was getting too late.  When they uncovered my car, I was relieved to see that nothing was caved in or broken.  We noticed one or two dents, but otherwise felt the car was ok.  The next morning the tree guys removed the rest of the branches and chopped down the remainder of the tree.  I called my insurance company and took my car to the body shop for an estimate.  Well, in the light of day and with the help of a guy with eyes for such things, I learned that the car was (as the repair guy so eloquently said) "really messed up."  There are dents in the hood, roof, frame, trunk, and both driver side doors.  There are also lots of scratches.  So, an estimate of 10 days of repair at a cost of around $2500.  Fortunately it looks like my insurance will cover everything but the deductible and will pay for a rental car.  Now I just have to wait until the repair shop calls for me to bring it in.

Ok,  I'll end this long entry now... time to get ready to finish the moving/cleaning, maybe I'll try to get over to the fabric store so I can make some curtains tonight.

Here are the cutie kitties we were taking care of...
  Thomas (very shy!)

Mirella (likes to do crazy jumps for no reason)

Louisa (queen of waking you up at 6am for breakfast)

Super quick blog entry because I really should be packing...

First, Shake has a lid!  I'll explain details of what I did later.

Second, we're moving (you know that already), but we also started house/ cat sitting for 4 days for our friends.  We thought this would be good, because important stuff could be taken to their house and everything left here had to go.  Well, don't you know Mother Nature was not on our side.  Here is the super fast version... big thunderstorm... big tree in front yard... two big branches (and I mean important huge branches) fall off tree... house shakes... no damage to house... but tree fell on MY CAR!!... fortunately, superficial damage (dents and scratches)... unfortunately, will cost over $2000 to fix (fingers crossed for insurance company to pick up the tab).

Ok, really must return to packing... I'll fill in all the details on Monday/Tuesday.

June 17, 2004
Heehee... I just found this on Erica's website.  An icon maker with which you can make self portraits!  Check me out!

My hair isn't quite that long, but I have been wearing a lot of pigtails recently.  I just showed Kevin and he was like "that's not you!"  Haha!  Oh well!

Last night was our knitting meetup. Jody and I had dinner beforehand, which was really nice.  It is so fun to have a knitting buddy!  Everyone in the meetup group is so cool and everyone has different fun projects and skills to share.  When I got home, I went on and on to Kevin about how great it is!  We might be making it a twice monthly event!  (like the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con... sorry Simpsons' reference.)  I got quite a few inches of my Candy-along cardi completed tonight.

Jody had a really good idea for the flat circle for the top of Shake.  She suggested using short rows and making sort of like wedges with them.  I think that might actually work.  I'm going to have to see if I can find my Big Book of Knitting over at the new apartment so I can figure out shortrows.  I know they are easy, but I like having a reference with me when trying new things.  I've stuffed Shake and started on the rim to his lid.

(Meatwad loves having his picture taken!)

Countdown to being completely moved: 2 days!  The computer is probably getting disconnected and packed up today or tomorrow, which means this is probably my last post until Monday evening.  If I can post on Friday, I will, but if not, I'll be back on Monday!

June 16, 2004

Wow!  I just got the brochure for Stitches East in Atlantic City.  I'm so there!!  Being a newbie to knitting, I've never gone to any kind of knitting event, so I'm very excited about this one!  Atlantic City is so close.  I'd love to go with someone, but I've already figured out how to go it alone if need be and it isn't until October!  I probably won't take any classes, but I definitely want to check out the Market and all the pretty yarns.

The new yummy lemonade yarn is on its way and should arrive on Thursday or Friday.  I'm a little nervous because I'm having it sent to the new apartment and we're not living there yet.

Knitting Meetup tonight!

Countdown to being completely moved: 3 days!

June 15, 2004
So last night I realized as I was working on Shake, and becoming very frustrated with how long it was taking, that because I had originally been knitting him flat and then switched to in the round, I had greatly (and I mean greatly) misjudged how wide he was.  Take a look...

At this rate shake would have to be at least 2 feet tall to compensate for his girth.  Well, considering that I spent a lot of time on it and was not about to frog it, I selected a different course of action.  I gave Shake a couple more inches of height to reach the 16 inches goal, and then cast off.  With some clever sewing, Shake has now lost a considerable amount of "weight..."
Now, he might look a little too skinny, but keep in mind that he's to be stuffed, so he'll fill out.  Now I just need to make a bottom for him and a lid, two hands, and a straw.  And then of course embroider a face.

So, now I need your help...  Please!!  Does anyone know how to knit or crochet a flat circle?!

Countdown to being completely moved: 4 days!

Let's take a look at the Ikea purchases...

1. Bedframe

2. Shower curtain and matching bathmat

3. Shelf for the kitchen (it isn't really as big as the picture makes it appear).

----
4. Wardrobe (picture 1 closed, picture 2 open)

And finally, a picture taken out the window in the living room to show you the view of our backyard! It is blurry because I took the picture through the screen, but you still get a good idea of all the green and open space!

Countdown to being completely moved: 5 days!

I won my first Ebay bid for yarn!!  Check out this yummy duo...

June 13, 2004
Ikea was great!  They have so much awesome stuff.  If I had lots of money (aside from buying lots of yarn), I'd have my entire house furnished and decorated with Ikea stuff.  We got everything we needed AND we fit it all in Kevin's car!  There's still a couple of things we need to get, but that stuff can wait until we're completely moved in and have a better idea of how everything will fit.  We got a bed frame and two storage boxes for under the bed.  We got a wardrobe since there isn't a lot of closet space.  And we got a new desk chair (with a rollie mat) and a shelf-unit for the kitchen.  Our friends Bernie and Mary came over and helped us assemble everything and then took us out to dinner; they're so great!

I'll try to take some pictures of our new furniture when we take more stuff over today.

Knitting progress is very slow, but Wednesday is our meet-up.  I don't really want to take the wrap again.  Maybe I'll start my Candy-along cardi.

June 12, 2004
I can't tell you how excited I am that we're going to  today!!!  I've only been there once, but I loved it soooooooo much!  Hopefully there will be lots of goodies (I mean necessities for the apartment) to tell you about.

I added a SiteMeter to my bloggie.  It will probably just tell me how many damn times I look at my own page!  I feel like I check it everytime I open the internet, even though I'm the one who created it and updates it, so it isn't going to change without my knowing!!  Hmmm, I think that little survey (see 6/10) was correct in asking if blogging is narcissistic...

I tried to get a commenting thing back on here, but NONE of them would work.  I don't know why!  Haloscan was working for me about a month ago, but I stopped using it because it was just a pain.  Oh well.

In knitting news, Shake is coming along.  It has been slow because the Mets have been losing, so in frustration Kevin and I have been playing video games instead of watching, and that takes away knitting time.  Also, Kevin's been playing a lot of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and it is actually kind of interesting to watch when he plays, so that distracts me from knitting (I crack up everytime he flies off a motorcycle or flips his car upside down).

IKEA time!

June 11, 2004
Ok, here are the modeling pictures of the bikini top (Bellytime Along) that I promised...

.......

Even though it is for the Bellytime-Along, I didn't think my belly needed to be plastered all over the internet, so you just get a glimpse of the upper tummy region.  (We are all always most critical of ourselves, I know that).

In other news, yesterday was much cooler and today even cooler still.  I think we're going to be moving a lot of stuff this afternoon.  Yesterday I knit some more on Shake.  I actually switched over to bigger circular needles (what was I think knitting him flat?!  he's a cup, so basically I'm making a tube!!).  It should go much faster now that I am knitting in the round (no more super long purl row... I don't usually mind purl rows, but when they are really long, they are just so slow!).  This thing is going to be monstrously huge.  I'll take some pictures some and show you the progress.  (The last picture I took was eaten by the computer, so hopefully the next one will go better!)

Tomorrow we are going to Ikea!!!

June 10, 2004
It was so hot yesterday that I knit one row and then gave up.  Today and the rest of the week should be cooler, so more knitting (I hope!)

Guess what came in the mail!?!?!?!

The wonderful Erica sent me candy!!

I was so excited and happy!  Look at what was inside...

So many goodies!!  I couldn't believe how lucky I am!!  Heeheehee (can you tell I've eaten some and am on a sugar high!!)  Let's look at some close ups...

Gummy Fries, Pizza, and a Burger!!  The Fries remind me of Frylock!  Haha!

Yarn!  How could she have known that last time I was in AC Moore, I was drawn to this same exact yarn.  I saw it and thought "ooh, I like the pinks!", but I didn't buy it because I was on a mission for other yarn and didn't want to spend more money.  So thank you, thank you!!  Hmm, now I have to think of something to make with it...

Finally, some really cool Canada-only candy!  I've never heard of Kinder, but I'm very excited to try it (it is currently hiding in the fridge so it doesn't melt away!)

So thank you Erica!  You are super-duper!!  And hopefully, someday soon I'll actually get around to working on my candy-along knitting project!

Oh, and to my candy-buddy... your candy surprise is coming soon.  I'm still brainstorming something representative of NJ, but I've got some ideas!

I often see other people answering little survey/questionnaire things on their blogs.  I enjoy reading them, but have never done one myself.  So I'm creating a little new page where I will do some of these surveys and I will link it when I see one and do it. (I'm putting it on a new page because sometimes they are long and take up lots of space, and if someone doesn't feel like scrolling through it, it won't take up space here).  So here's the first one.  I found this on Erica's website who found it from Yano's blog who found it from someone else and on down the line (follow their blogs to find out).

June 9, 2004
Well, it is 11am and 81 degrees outside (even more inside!!!).  The Weather Channel is predicting that it will reach at least 92 degrees by this afternoon.  And of course since we are trying to save money, no air conditioning for us.  I'm tempted to actually go over and spend time in my office (which I haven't done in weeks) just to be somewhere cool.  This hot weather also makes it difficult to focus on packing and moving.  I think it is supposed to be cooler by Friday and Saturday, so we are temporarily putting moving on hold.

Speaking of moving and packing, it is totally destroying my hands... This is how my right hand looks, see how nice and pretty my nails are...

And this is how my left hand looks!

The corner of the thumb nail is broken off.  The index finger was bleeding (and I have no idea how I did that!).  The middle finger nail completely broke off.  The little sparkly bead on the ring finger is missing.  Only the pinky finger remains unharmed.  I was going to go get the broken nail fixed, but at this point, if I'm just going to destroy them more, I might as well wait until moving is nearly finished.

In knitting news, I've been slowly working on knitting Shake.  Because of the huge dimensions of Meatwad, Shake is going to be enormous, but I'm close to halfway finished with the body.  This acrylic yarn I'm using is so yucky to work with.  I'm glad I'm using it up on something silly and getting it out of my stash.

I have a picture of the wrap although I haven't worked on it in a while.  It is just too hot!  I have about 3 more balls worth to do and it will be finished.

If it cools off enough that the sweat isn't just dripping off, I'll take a modeling pic of the bikini top that is my Belly-time project and post it soon.

Finally, last time I mentioned I went to a bridal shower on Sunday.  It was for my cousin's fiancee.  It is the first one I've been to since I was a kid.  And it was just as boring as I remembered.  When I was a kid, it seemed so cool that this one person was getting sooooo many presents (because as a kid all you want is lots of presents).  But on Sunday, it all seemed kind of silly and very anti-feminist.  Here this poor girl has to open presents of dishes, glasses, bakeware, pots and pans, an iron, and basically anything domestic you can imagine.  What kind of message is that sending?  Not a very feminist one.  I understand that starting a new house/apartment is tough and you need stuff, but why does it have to be only the woman opening these things.  Presumably in a feminist model, the man should be there also opening dishes and cookware, and the woman should help open tools and electronics.  The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth with the overly domestic nature of it (the woman sitting next to me, bragged that she bought the bride-to-be the most domestic gift she could think of... an apron).  For me, (not that a bridal shower is in the near future or even in the far future), I don't even need any of the stuff she got.  We've already got all that stuff now, and it may not be brand new, but it works and it's good, so why put up with it. Ok, enough ranting for today.  Hopefully it won't be too hot to knit tonight!

June 7, 2004
I have so much to say, but I'll begin with the knitting...  haven't accomplished much.  Between everything else that's been going on, there hasn't been a lot of time to sit and knit.  And even when there is, the progress is slow because my hands hurts.  I wake up in the morning and my hands are aching (especially if I was knitting before bed).  At the ripe old age of 25, I shouldn't be having these problems.  And I owe you all a bunch of pictures!! But there is no where to take pictures because our apartment is such a mess...

We moved more stuff today.  In three trips we were able to move a bookcase, 2 filing cabinets, our dining room table and 3 chairs, and a bunch of miscellaneous crap.  How is it that two underpaid graduate students can have so much stuff?  Our dining room is nearly empty right now, but we've barely made a dent.  We've got to try to move as much as possible because we don't know if we're doing the big move (bed, couch, desk, computer, large furniture, etc.) this weekend or next.  I've been doing most of the packing because I know Kevin doesn't like to, and besides, I make him carry everything that's heavy.  (I wish I could carry the heavy stuff, I'm not trying to be a wimpy girl, but I'm small and more importantly, I'm a huge klutz).  So yeah, moving sucks... but I'm trying to keep in mind the goal of the new wonderful place with a backyard...

Let's see what else has been going on... oh, DAVID BOWIE!!!!  Oh my god!!  Our seats were in section 201 row B at the PNC Arts Center.  It looks farther away on the seating chart than it is.  We were about as close as you can get without paying hundreds of dollars.  The show was awesome.  He did one slow song, and all the rest were rocking and basically did one right after another.  He did a seven song encore!!  Here's the set list...
1 Rebel Rebel
2 Cactus
3 Sister Midnight
4 New Killer Star
5 Panic In Detroit
6 Never Get Old
7 Fame
8 All The Young Dudes
9 China Girl
10 The Loneliest Guy
11 The Man Who Sold The World
12 Heathen (The Rays)
13 Hallo Spaceboy
14 Under Pressure
15 Ashes To Ashes
16 Liza Jane (Or a portion at least)
17 Station To Station
18 I'm Afraid Of Americans
19 "Heroes"

(Encore)
20 Slip Away (With The Polyphonic Spree)
21 The Supermen
22 White Light, White Heat
23 Reality
24 Hang On To Yourself
25 Diamond Dogs
26 Suffragette City
27 Ziggy Stardust

The last thing I wanted to talk about was the bridal shower I went to on Sunday, but I'll save that for tomorrow.

June 5, 2004
Well, I tried to fix the bikini bottoms, and it didn't work.  I think they are hopeless.  I'm going to try to rethink them and attempt to make my own design.  I have a couple of ideas that might work...

As you can see from yesterday, I made a Meatwad.  It was super-quick!  Unfortunately, Shake and Frylock probably won't be as easy.  I've cast on for Shake, but had to stop knitting because my left hand is killing me.  I think the intesive crocheting for the bikini just killed it.  I think I hold the yarn weird or something and crocheting just screws up my hand.

We started moving yesterday.  We took some books over and took some measurements of the rooms to try to figure out what furniture will fit.  We might over more things today, but it's been raining so that might make it difficult.

And finally, tonight is...

Bikini Time!!

Here is the top.  I followed the SnB pattern except for the band around the bottom.  The pattern calls for a crochet chain to attach the cups, but I wanted something a little more secure.  I single crocheted a band and attached the cups to that.  You can see a close up...

The top fits beautifully.  I really like.  However, down below we have a problem.  Here's the bottoms...

How can these be at the same time too big and too small?  The front is baggy, the back is baggy, yet the sides barely reach!  What is up with that?!  Instead of tossing them aside and starting again, or frogging ('cause I don't think that will help), I'm going to try to come up with a creative crochet solution.  I'm thinking a band similar to the one for the top could be attached as a sort of belt.  I know you're supposed to put elastic in the bottoms to fix them.  But there's no way even elastic will fix them.  I'm going to work on this tonight.  If I ever get the bottoms right, I'll take a modeling pic (and maybe!! post it).  If not, I'll just post one of the top.

We went yesterday and got the keys to our new apartment.  It was nice to see the place empty (when we initially looked at it, the previous renters were still living there and had baby stuff everywhere).  It is somewhat smaller than where we are now, but I think we'll be able to fit most of our stuff.  We may have to get rid of our couch, but we'll figure that out.  Our next step is to get out the tape measure and start making some calculations, moving books and other non-essentials over, and setting up a day that my dad and brother can bring the truck up to move furniture.  I'm so excited though because the place is so cute.  It is on the property of another house and it is built behind and above a garage.  It is basically its own little cottage.  It will be so good to get away from living in a complex.

Knitting updates...
1. The wrap... The dark brown section is finished and the next blue section is halfway done.  After that there is half a ball of tan and two balls of blue.  Progress as been a bit slow because garter stitch isn't the most exciting.

2. Bellytime... Well, I cast off what I had finished previously (see the picture from yesterday).  I don't know what it will become, but probably not much of anything right now.  My creative juices have been tapped out with my SnB2 project and the potential project below (see 4.), so I'm really in the need of a good little pattern to follow.  So I've decided for a quick and simple bellytime project to make the bikini from the SnB book (what is more belly-rific than a bikini!!)  I've already knit one cup and am altering the top a bit.  I'll probably have the top finished tonight, so I'll show y'all tomorrow.

3. Candy-along project is just waiting for my attention.  I think I need to finish something fast (bellytime project) and then I'll pick this up.  I love reading the candy along blog and all the great projects other people are making.  I have to find some yummy candies to send off to my candy buddy soon!!

4. New project... ok, now this is a crazy project, but hopefully I can actually use up some stash yarn on it.  Does anyone watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim (M-Th at 12:00am)?  It is a crazy show that is basically about nothing (think of Seinfeld... a show about nothing).  Anyways, the main characters are Master Shake (a milkshake), Meatwad (uhm... a meatwad), and Frylock (a carton of french fries).  Basically they are "detectives" who live in a house near the Jersey shore next door to a guy named Carl who has a pool.  Most episodes surround some trivial event involving strange aliens dropping by or making Carl mad.  I know, it sounds like a dumb show and I thought it was dumb when I first saw it, but since then I (and Kevin too) have become highly addicted to it.  So what does this have to do with knitting?  Well, recently Cartoon Network has been showing pictures that viewers send in of their own versions of the ATHF characters... made out of clay, Legos, etc.  Kevin has been urging me to make a knitted version of them.  They'd basically turn out to be dolls/toys.  I've already looked in the stash and have the right colored yarns, and I've drawn some sketches of the pieces to knit, and I have a crap-load of stuffing in the closet (I had made a bunch of pillows a looooooooong time ago and over estimated by a lot how much stuffing to get).  So yeah, this might be a new knitting project that you'll be hearing about...

As you can see it is a new month, so a new color scheme here at the blog.  May has been archived over on the right.  Here's a reminder of the three projects I'm working on...

1.
A nice, big, cozy wrap.  It is actually a bit longer than this picture.

2.
My Bellytime knit along project.  It will probably end up a tube top and this is the front piece.

3.
My Candy-along project.  While I cast on a while ago, I think I'll be frogging that and starting over.  Nice and fluffy like cotton candy or marshmallows.  The candy along is so exciting, and you should join in if you haven't already.  It doesn't matter what you knit, but we are doing a big, secret buddy candy exchange!  Each month you get a new buddy to send candy goodies to!!  Yum!!

So it's June 1st and we now have two apartments.  This month is going to involve lots of moving trips (just moving all of our books is going to take forever!).  I'm so excited though to be moving into a new place!!
