SEPTEMBER 2004
September 30, 2004
Ugh!  How can another month be finishing?

Anyways, just a quickie post today (I really need to get over to my office)...

1.  I joined the "I'm in Glove" glove-along.
2.  Knitting last night with Jody and Kathy was great!  We changed up the venue and knitted at Borders and all loved it!  (Ronni, we hope you can come next week!)
3.  The people on the block who let their dogs outside at 6am and then allow them to bark and yelp until 9am, which causes any other dogs in the neighborhood to bark and yelp need to be beaten!!  (Sorry, I'm just so tired of being woken up every morning by these freakin' dogs!!)
4.  I wore Suss Zip Up yesterday and Jody and Kathy loved it!

I'll be more interesting tomorrow!

September 29, 2004
I worked for a bit on Kevin's sock and got past the horrible elastic part.  I'm still only halfway down the leg, but it should move quicker now.

I've also decided to change the Oatmeal socks into mittens.  I'm going to make the mittens that have the fingerless gloves on the inside.  Here's my progress so far...

Sorry the picture is a bit dark.  The yarn is Yarn for Sox which is mostly wool with a little nylon.  It is a bit itchy, but I made a swatch which is currently drying, so I'm hoping it softens up.

Tonight I'm knitting with Jody and Kathy!

September 28, 2004
I have another finished project.  I snuck this one in here secretly!  Aussie hat is complete!

This pattern from the Jo Sharp Book Number 2 was quick and easy.  I really liked the pattern.  Next time I would make it a little smaller in width (although that might require massive calculation and pattern changes).  I will try to find a little spot of sunlight to get a better picture of the cables and color.

One warning about the Jo Sharp Silkroad Tweed... it breaks very easily.  As I was sewing it up, twice, I broke the yarn.  Fingers crossed that it won't unravel!  Oh, second warning... the pattern calls for 1 ball of yarn... you need about 1/4 - 1/3 of a second ball.

Also, I'm trying to move to a commenting system instead of the tagboard because tagboard likes to not work and screw up the entire website.  So now that I have a place for comments, leave me some!!  Thanks!

September 27, 2004
Before we get to today's main attraction, I would like to make a couple of comments...
    1. Blocking is well worth it because everything gets so nice and flat.  Thank you Jody for the great tip about the lighting panels for cheap blocking boards.
    2. If I ever say I want to knit a sweater with zippers again... please, please, please tell me "NO!"

Here it is!

I think the white zippers look really nice (the red probably would have looked good too)!

...
A close up look at the zippers.  I tried not to show you how poorly they are sewn in.  I tried using the tips at Chicknits but the way this sweater is constructed vs the cardigan in her example, it just became easier for me to wing it.  I probably need to take the time to sew them in a little more strongly, but my fingers are crying from being stabbed with the damn sewing needle.  If I were ambitious, I would pull out the old sewing machine and use that, since they are basically already in place.

Now on to some posing pictures...

The Front.

The Wingspan.
(yes the sleeves are very long, and yes I did that intentionally... I'm one of those people who likes to hide her hands up in her sleeves.)

The Back.

The Fun Picture!

I have two entire skeins of this yarn that I didn't use!  What should I make with it?  Gloves?  Scarf?  Hat?  Purse?  I dunno... I'm open to suggestions!

And just in case there weren't enough pictures in this post, here's a modeling picture of the Lemonade Scarf.

(Oh, and the observant of you might notice that my hair looks a bit blonder in the Suss pictures.  Kevin is becoming quite a good hair dresser for me!  I had him help me with some Herbal Essence's highlights.  If this was a year ago, I would have balked at doing anything to my hair myself without a professional... I was very protective of my hair and only professionals could touch... not that I was that snobby, just that I am lucky enough to have an aunt who is a hair dresser and consistently did my hair until I came to graduate school.  Now it is too hard to get down to her to get it done, and I don't want to keep paying $70+ at the salon, so now I'm doing it myself... well with Kevin's wonderful help!)

September 26, 2004
All the pieces are ready... time to seam!  Fingers crossed for results on Monday!!!!

September 25, 2004
Hooray for packages in the mail!  I got my books on George Lucas from Amazon... no I don't particularly love George Lucas, but I am going to study his life for my personality class.  I figure it should be interesting because I'll get to watch his movies again too!

The best package, however, was from my secret pal!!  She is the awesomest!!  Check it out:

There's a really cute bag that I will start using immediately for carrying around my knitting.  Some gorgeous sock yarn and a pattern for the Line of Fire Socks.  Also, there's the Knitting Pattern a Day calendar.  I've seen other people talking about this on their blogs and I have been waiting to get over to the bookstore to look at it.  The only problem is I don't think I can wait until 2005 to look at it!  Not pictured are some yummy truffles that got a little melty, so are hanging out in the fridge before I devour them!

Isn't this yarn beautiful?!  I know the picture is lousy; I have to find some sunlight and take another.  Add another pair of socks to the list of projects!

This bag is so cute!  Bags are in my top 10 obsessions (others being all things knitting, books, shoes...)

THANK YOU SECRET PAL2, you are awesome!!!!!!!

In other news...
Tom Petty was right!  The waiting is the hardest part!

Yesterday, Kevin and I went to Loew's and got a new garbage can (some animals got into the old one and spread trash everywhere!).  We also got a bird feeder!

It is kind of hard to see in the picture, so I put in an arrow.  Now I can watch the birdies outside!

I also got a piece of the plastic grid stuff that goes over fluorescent lights (THANKS for the tip, JODY!) so that I could make a cheapie blocking board for Suss Sweater (and future projects).

After giving the front and back a nice bath, I laid them out to dry.

...

Now I just have to wait for them to dry (and finish sleeve 2).  Then I can sew these pieces together and install the first zipper (thanks Ronni and Jody for tips!), while letting the sleeves block.  I'm so excited for this sweater!

And when the yarn gets here, I'm Klaralunding-along!

And the winner is...

White Zipper!

The winning voter is...

Korinna!!

Thanks everyone who voted!  The tallies were actually virtually even for red, white, and combo... so I had to make an executive decision.  The problem now is how the heck do I sew in zippers!  Suss gives no further instruction than "sew in zippers."  I looked in the Big Book of Knitting and there is all this complicated stuff with facings and craziness.  So I gotta look around for some more help on that.

After class this morning, I have nothing going on so I plan to knock out the other sleeve and do some weaving in of ends.

Thanks again to everyone who voted!  I wish I could send you all prizes!!

September 23, 2004
Knitting with Jody and Kathy last night was tons of fun!  I love knitting and chatting with others.  It was mighty productive too... check it out:

Sleeve 1 completed!

After talking with Jody and seeing her progress, I'm even more tempted by Klaralund.  I now have the pattern and have been looking at the yarn online.  So tempting......

But first, I need to finish a few things, so I pulled this out and was finished in less than an hour.

...

Lemonade Scarf is finally completed!  I will try to take a better picture (and a modeling picture) for tomorrow.  I used the remaining Fizz to make lovely fringe.  This scarf is so soft.  I figure if I order the yarn for Klaralund in a little bit (I know I shouldn't!!  I shouldn't spend money, I shouldn't start a new project... but I want it so bad) that while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I can finish the Suss sweater and make significant progress on Kevin's sock and Regia sock (hopefully finishing one of them completely).

Oh yes, and please please please enter the contest... I'll even extend the voting to 11pm (after ER!).  So email me your vote!!

September 22, 2004
Come on people, you gotta get your vote in for the contest... there is less than 24 hours to go and the results are still mixed for red, white, or red and white zippers.  I don't want to make the ultimate decision... that's why I'm having a contest!  The winner will get the Moda Dea yarn and a surprise!!!  (It is a very nice surprise!)

Last night I had to proctor an exam over on College Ave, where it is horrible to find parking, so I took Suss with me and went over early.  I sat outside and knitted for about half an hour until I was approached by two girls.  At first I thought they wanted to ask me about my knitting, but no, they wanted to spread the word of God.  Now I admit, I'm not very religious... I did the whole church thing as a kid and I know a lot of the history behind the major (western) religions and I've made up my own adult mind that religion isn't for me.  I'm polite to people who enjoy religion and I'm happy for them if it makes them happy... I just really get annoyed when people try to shove their beliefs off on other people.  So, I politely listened to these girls, but I'm sorry I'd rather have been knitting than listening to their spiel.

This morning, I found out I needed to be over in the lab again (ugh!  I feel like I live there!) so I took Suss and knitted while the participants did their surveys.  I'm happy to say that I am 2 rows away from finishing the decreases, within 3 inches of having the appropriate length, and just the cap shaping before being finished with sleeve 1.  Zoooooooom!

Will I have both sleeves finished by the big zipper winner reveal on Friday so that I can "install" the zippers over the weekend?   Check back and see!  (Oh, and I'll post a pic tomorrow!)

September 21, 2004
So we'll start off with a little bit about the wedding.  The ceremony was in the church that I went to as a kid, so there was some weird deja vu stuff going on with that.  While the ceremony was nice, I thought that the pastor could have been more articulate; she seemed like this was her first wedding ceremony ever as she stumbled over lots of words and phrases.  The reception afterward was very fun.  Kevin and I danced, and I even danced with my mom and eventually my dad came out and danced too!  (I think his favorite was the Mummer's Strut... if you're from the Philly area you gotta do that Mummer's Strut).  I even got my brother ("NO, I don't dance!!) to do the Hot Hot Hot train around the room with me.  The DJ was awesome because he brought props!!  So when it was time for the YMCA, he had a box full of hats (police cap, sailor cap, fireman hat, hard hat, and indian feathers!).  Then for the Grease medley he had big microphones and sunglasses (my dad and Kevin looked like the Blues Brothers in their sunglasses and suits).  There were glowing necklaces for the electric slide and plastic leis for the Hot Hot Hot train.

Here are the props I was able to bring home!  I'm not sure what I will do with them, but heck, we all love souvenirs, right?!

Knitting class last night was great!  Only 2 people didn't come back.  Most had been diligently practing their knit stitch so had little garter stitch swatches.  I taught them how to purl and had them start knitting and purling, and now they have beautiful stockinette stitch swatches!  A number of them are having problems with their swatches expanding and/or decreasing.  It seems they are knitting into the same stitch twice or accidently yarning over or skipping stitches.  I tried to encourage them to keep practicing, but to make sure they count as they go so that they keep the right number of stitches.  I'm so excited that they are doing well.  Next week, I will show them how to read a pattern and they will start making a hat.

Unfortunately, I didn't do any of my own knitting yesterday.  After running around all day with things I needed to do and driving Kevin around because his car was getting a check up (I like thinking about cars in terms of people and doctors, since I otherwise know nothing about how they work), I was exhausted when I got home and Kevin and I ended up playing racing and crashing games on the Playstation.

On the to do list for today... grocery shopping, meeting with my advisor (oh crap!  I haven't prepared anything for that... d'oh!), and then I have to proctor an exam tonight (ugh!).  Hopefully, some knitting tonight!

September 20, 2004

Don't forget to enter the contest!!!!

So when I bought the zippers on Thursday at the Rag Shop, I was got by the lure of fabric.  I saw that they had baskets full of "left-over" yarn.  Knowing that strawberry bag probably won't have a knitted lining (because I'm lazy), I picked up a couple of things that might work.  (Also, some were just too cute to leave at the store, but I'd never by entire yards of).

...

The white one has a little bit of a pattern on it and the pink one is little pink flowers.  Then I bought an "8 pack" that has various blues, pinks, and purples (and one green).  Unfortunately, I become stupid when I sew and I totally screwed up sewing the lining into the strawberry bag... and no I will not show you.  I was so careful to do it right, that I screwed it up.  Ugh!  So strawberry bag is back on hold.

And silly me totally forgot to take my camera to the wedding on Saturday, so no pictures unless my mom sends me hers and then I have to scan them in (she hasn't joined the digital age yet).  The wedding was nice and I will update more on that tomorrow.  I've got a busy day ahead... more in the lab, belly dancing, and knitting class.  I hope I can find some time with the Suss sweater.  I've only managed about 8 inches on one sleeve.  (Kevin and I got a new Playstation game... Burnout 2... the object of the game is to cause the biggest car wreck possible... it is very addictive!)

Oh, and again... enter the contest!!!!  So far white and red votes are neck and neck (and like I said before, there aren't too many voters, so your chances of winning are very high!!!!).

September 17, 2004
Ok, so I said earlier that I wouldn't post until Sunday or Monday, but I'm posting an early "Friday" post to announce kim's knitting world's first CONTEST!!

Yes, I'm having a contest.  All you need to do to enter is to email me your vote for what color zipper I should use in the Suss Zip Up Pullover.  Here are your choices...

...
Red Zipper.........................or.......................White Zipper

Please keep in mind that the amount of zipper showing in the pictures is exaggerated, there won't be nearly so much when I sew it in.  Also, there are 3 zippers on the sweater... one in the front body, and one on each sleeve, thus if you are so inclined, vote for a combination!

So to enter the contest, just email me (the link is in the sidebar) your color choice.  The contest will be open until noon on Thursday, Sept 23rd (even though I'm itching to sew one into the body now!).  The next day I will randomly select and announce the winner, who will receive 2 skeins of beautiful and super soft Moda Dea Burst yarn (and maybe a little surprise as well!!!).

~this is a bad picture, but this yarn is so wonderful~

So that's my contest!  I don't think I have very many readers, so your odds of winning are very high!

September 16, 2004
Pilates class was so great yesterday!  I've had this instructor before and she is really good.  My back actually stopped hurting for a while after class.  I normally have pain in my shoulder area, but lately I've been having pain across my middle back and I haven't been able to figure out what it is from (can't be from knitting!! haha).

Last night at the meet-up it was just a small turn out, probably because of the rain.  I worked a little on Kevin's sock and on the Lemonade scarf.  Lemonade scarf is quickly approaching completion as I am about to yarn out of the Deco Ribbon.

When I got home, I started one sleeve of Suss, but after 2 inches got tired and fell asleep during the Daily Show.  Since the yarn for this didn't come in balls or skeins, I've been winding it into balls by hand.  Boy, I need to get me a ball winder!  It doesn't help that the last 2 that I wound into balls were poorly twisted in the first place and had a bunch of tangles.  I hopefully have enough wound now to finish the sweater.  I think I might go and try to find zippers this afternoon.

Tomorrow I have class at 8am and then I have to be in the lab for several hours.  Saturday is my cousin's wedding, so there might not be any new posts until Sunday or Monday.  So it is a little early, but have a happy weekend!!

September 15, 2004
It took me no time last night to finish up the front of the Suss Zip Up sweater.

...

I completed the armholes and neck (about 8 inches of knitting) in an hour.  I really like working on the 10 1/2 needles.  The stitches aren't overwhelmingly huge and it goes fast!  I need to find some time to squeeze in a trip to the store to get some zippers because the sleeves will hopefully fly off the needles equally as fast.  I haven't decided yet if I am going to knit them both at the same time.

Tonight is the knitting meetup.  I'm not sure what project I'm taking with me... maybe lemonade scarf and Kevin's sock...

I have Pilates this afternoon and then I have to spend a couple of hours in the lab before knitting.  Somewhere in the middle of that, I have to finish writing my papers for class, do some reading, and write a quiz for my students.

September 14, 2004
WOW!  My knitting class was full and there are more trying to get in, which I think it totally awesome... people want to knit!  However, trying to simultaneously teach 15 people to knit at once is not easy or possible.  I quickly scraped the plans I had and realized that I couldn't teach them as a group.  When I showed them as a group, they all went "do what now?"  When I showed each person individually, they went "Ooooh, I get it!"  I'm just paranoid that I turned them all off to knitting by making it seem hard and frustrating and that they won't come back next week... so paranoid that I actually couldn't sleep last night.  Rationally, I know they'll come back (most of them) and after next week I think they'll all be a little smoother and have a better idea of what to do.  I just always flip out when I teach something new... I did after the first time teaching Gen Psych and Psych of Women.  I think I need me some more self-confidence.  Anyone have any tips for teaching a large group of newbie knitters?

In other news, my belly dancing class was awesome!  My butt and thighs hurt somewhat today, but the teacher for the class is so cool and I worked up a big sweat.  I always forget how happy and energetic I feel after exercising.  Mostly, I sit on my butt for so long thinking how exercising makes me tired and sore, always forgetting about that good feeling, that I end up doing nothing.  Tomorrow is Pilates!

Progress is being made on Suss Zip Up.  I should have the front finished today or tomorrow.  Oh, and speaking of tomorrow, what the hell happened to Meetup.com?  They completed changed everything, I didn't get any reminders until today that "oh, by the way, knitting tomorrow."  So far only me and one other person are signed up to go... and I think that's because others aren't getting the emails because of the stupid new format meetup has changed to.  Grrrr!

Ok, I need to write a couple of papers today before running errands this afternoon!  Have a happy Tuesday!

September 13, 2004
So I went to Unity Fest yesterday.  The weather was beautiful for it, but otherwise I was quite disappointed.  I can remember the Family Fun Fest day that the town I grew up in had (and maybe my memory is a little warped), but I can remember there being vendor after vendor of crafts and jewelry, lots of different kinds of food, games and music.  Today, there were about four people selling jewelry and a couple of others selling expensive glassware.  There was a little bit of food.  The games for kids included a small net into which kids could kick balls or tables were they could play cards.  There were two stages with musicians.  Of course there were the typical police office and fire department tables.  Finally, there were quite a few anti-Bush, anti-war, register to vote tables, which I definitely think is cool.  But there was a lack of excitement and vendors.  The festival was set up on 3 blocks of main street and there was vast open spaces between vendors.  It had more of a vibe of "oh, so this is going on" than "wow look at that, that stuff is cool, this music is awesome, let's eat some of that!"  The only place that seemed to be at all exciting was the cotton candy table.  I think Kevin and I are going to go to the Cranberry Festival in October; we went last year and while there was a bit of "flea-marketness" to it, they had really good food and huge cranberrries!

You'll notice that the progress bars are gone.  The site I was getting them from isn't working and while I liked them, I did feel kind of bad taking the pictures from her server.  I really did try to download and host them myself, but when I did that they wouldn't work.  So no progress bars until I can figure out a better solution.

As far as knitting goes, yesterday I did a little work and then gave up and knitted.  I'm about halfway finished on the front of the sweater.  Right now, I just got back from doing laundry and itching to keep going on the sweater, but I have dance class and knitting class tonight, so this has to be work time.  I'll give you a report tomorrow about knitting class!!

September 12, 2004
Holy crap!  Just a few months ago I talked about how I can only work on one (maybe two) projects at a time.  I just made a list of my current and soon to be started projects and there are 11!

Kevin's sock, Regia sock, Mom's socks, Oatmeal (formerly cream) socks, Pipi Kneestockings, Aussie Hat, Suss Sweater (new blue yarn), Shake, Strawberry Bag, Lemonade Scarf, Glace Wrap, (+Rustic Sweater, which I don't have yarn for yet... so that would make 12)

Clearly my progress bars do not indicate all of these projects.

Instead of doing work yesterday like I planned to, the draw of the new blue yarn was too strong.  I wound three skeins into balls and started on the back.  And get this... I actually knit two gauge swatches to get the correct gauge!  The recommended size 10 needles were too small, so I went up to 10 1/2 and got the gauge dead on.  So I knitted and knitted and watched Bridget Jones' Diary (for the millionth time) and Dirty Dancing (for the billionth time) and I know have this...

...

Isn't it gorgeous!?  That's the back and a close up of the stitches.  Not only is the yarn pretty and forms pretty variegatedness, the stitches are so clearly defined.  This yarn would probably be really good for a cabled sweater (I will keep that in mind as AC Moore had lots of color of this yarn).  In the skein it is soft, but slightly scratchy, but knit it is much softer and I am guessing that it will soften more after washing.  I'm absolutely in love with this yarn.  Too bad the week coming up is super busy and I really need to get some school work done today, or I could have this sweater finished by next weekend at the latest.  I do need to find some zippers for it.  Oh did I mention I'm knitting it into the Suss Zip-up Pullover.  That picture kinda sucks, but you'll see it better once I finish my version!

Today is Unity Fest here in town.  It starts at noon and lasts until 4pm.  I think I might wander down around 1pm to check it out... food, crafts, and music!

September 11, 2004
Last night I went to the mall to look for a dress for my cousin's wedding.  Besides being very few options that didn't look like I was going to Prom or outrageously overpriced, there were a couple of "ok" dresses, but nothing I could justify spending the money on.  So needless to say, I came home sort of depressed.  AND THEN, when I got home there was the biggest spider that I've ever seen in my life that wasn't in a zoo.  If Kevin had been here, I would have screamed and screamed, but since he's not, I had to take care of it myself.  Then there was an email sent around that another RU student was sexually assaulted.  So I spent the evening on the couch depressed and scared.

This morning I went to AC Moore to pick up 3 more of everything for my knitting class.  While I was there I picked up some stuff for my SP2, which I will send out sometime during the week.  Oh, and I'm not depressed (still a little skittish about spiders), but certainly not sad anymore... check this out...

...

I absolutely could not resist this yarn.  The colors are even more beautiful in person.  It is variegated shades of delicious deep blues.  I got about 1040 yards, so this is destined to be a sweater.  It is Araucania Nature Wool Chunky from Chile.  I also got the size 8 circs that I need for Aussie hat and cream socks.  So many projects... so little time!!

While I'm still glowing about this yarn, I think I'm going to clean up and organize my knitting, set up which projects are in line next and make a list so I can keep track of what I want to knit!

September 10, 2004
Wow, this week has been busy.  I've spent the majority of the past three days in the lab training research assistants.  Due to some mix-ups, I'm probably going to be training again Tuesday and Friday.  And most likely playing the confederate role on Wednesday.

Next week starts recreation classes, which means I have my first knitting class on Monday!  I just found out that there will be up to 15 people in the class, so I need to go back to AC Moore and buy 3 more of everything.  Who knows what other good things I'll walk out with!?  I need to start thinking about the next SP2 gift to send out.  Besides teaching the knitting class, I'm taking 3 recreation classes... Belly dancing, Pilates, and Soap Making.  I'll get in shape and smell good!

Not too much knitting yesterday, I was feeling pretty worn out and miserable so ended up just vegging in front of the tv.  Even though I have a lot of work to do this weekend, I plan on fitting in some quality knitting time.

Happy weekend!!

September 9, 2004
So on Tuesday I had class and well... I hated it.  The class wasn't anything like the course description and seemed to be mainly focused around things interesting to the professor.  After thinking it over, I decided to drop the class (I didn't really need it anyway) and pick up the extra credits in research.  I think this semester will turn out better without the class.

For the class that I'm still taking (Personality Psychology), I've been reading Freud's Civilization and Its Discontents.  I must say I'm finding the book very interesting.  I thought Freud was all about sex and weirdos... I mean, I'm in my fourth year of graduate school and was a psychology major as an undergraduate and this is the first exposure I've had to Freud that doesn't involve psychoanalysis or his Psychosexual Stages of Development.  So I'm really digging this book... especially the discussion of civilization and religion as the source of all human misery.

Yesterday, I spent all day in the lab (well, when there weren't fire drills that made me wait outside the building) because I had to train people at 10am and 4pm.  I have the same training schedule today, except I have to teach in between.

Oh, and this is a knitting blog... I do have knitting content.  I finished Regia sock #1 last night.  This sock totally just flew off the needles.  I absolutely love the colors.

I did the leg and down the foot in a 3x3 rib, just for a change of pace.  I'll start the second sock probably later today.  I've got my fingers crossed that I have enough in the current skein to finish the second sock... if so, I can use the second skein of the Regia to make a pair for my mom.

I finally got the books for my class from Amazon, and of course I added a little something special in the order...

Hollywood Knits Style by Suss Cousins.

I have her first book and really liked it a lot (despite all the name dropping and touch of pretentiousness), so when I saw this on Amazon for $10 off, I couldn't resist.  I really like a lot of the designs in the book.  I didn't get a chance to read all of the text (and there is quite a bit), but I very much like that there are no "how to knit" instructions.  I mean, I understand why they are included in most books and when I first started knitting I desperately needed those instructions, but now I feel like "leave out the instructions, add more patterns!"  Here are two of my favorite patterns...

...

The book definitely has a bit of the Weekend Knitting feel to it with the text and recipes included.  But there are a ton of patterns, some are "blah" but there are a number of others that I really liked.

September 7, 2004
Happy B-day to Kevin!  It's finally his official birthday so I can finally give him all his presents... well, this afternoon at least.  We both have early classes today and then he has a presentation in the afternoon, but as soon as he gets home it's present-time!  Then we're going to go out to dinner somewhere nice.

I'm closing in on finishing Regia sock.  I have about two to three more inches before closing up the toe.  This sock is just flying off the needles!  I love making socks!  (Well, Kevin's second sock is annoying me with the elastic, but still I love making socks).  I'm going to have to stock up on lots of sock yarn so that I can always have a sock with me.  I love just dropping the plastic baggie with the sock and yarn in my purse and having it with me to be knit on whenever and wherever.  Unfortunately, Pipi Kneestockings aren't going to be so portable with all the different colors.

I ought to finish getting ready to head off to class... especially since I need to leave early because I don't know where the building is or where I can park.  Damn Rutgers is too big!

September 6, 2004
We're back in business, baby!  A big thank you goes out to the people at the Rutgers helpdesk for being so fast and helpful in their responses.  It turns out I had the permissions set so that no one could see pictures and the August archive.

Let's recap the weekend...

Friday night, Kevin's bro came down from the city.  We were all generally exhausted from the start of school, so we watched several episodes of Beavis and Butthead before passing out.  Saturday, Kevin's parents and sister showed up and we had a nice big BBQ.  On Sunday, we went down to Philly to watch the Phillies beat the Mets.  And I built a Phanatic!!!  They have a Build-a-Bear in the stadium, but instead of bears, you build a Philly Phanatic...

The other new toy we have is a Cave Troll.  After reading an article in the NY Times about Stephen Colbert (of the Daily Show) and his cave troll, Kevin emailed me that he needed his own cave troll (jokingly).  So, needing more presents for his b-day, I immediately looked on e-bay and found a cave troll and ordered it.  It showed up on Friday and even though his b-day isn't until tomorrow, I had to let him have it on Friday (I'm having a hard enough time keeping his other presents secret, so I had to give him something... I think in the future I have to wait to buy presents the day before they are to be given, so I don't have to wait so long to gift them!).

That's Sigmund Freud next to the troll.

I've been mostly working on the Regia sock.  I'm working my way down the foot, so sock #1 should be finished soon.

The plans for today include watching the Seinfeld marathon and reading Freud's Civilizations and its Discontents.

I apologize for the ugly gray background.  On my template I have a really cute Fall background with leaves.  But apparently, although I can post pages again, I can't post pictures.  Ugh!  I'm trying to remain cool about it because I know I've had the inability to post pictures before and after getting very frustrated the problem resolved itself and didn't seem to be on my end.  So I'm just taking deep breaths and hoping it will figure itself out (SOON!!!!)

I've been continuing in my knitting ADD.  I knit a couple of rounds of Kevin's sock, pick up the scarf for my class, then crochet on Glace, and then usually end up with the Regia sock.

I had my first class this morning at the awful hour of 8am.  I haven't had an 8am class in 6 years, so needless to say, I had to struggle to follow what was going on because my brain had not yet turned on.  And of course, I ordered my books from Amazon with the super shipper savings because I'd rather save a couple of bucks than get the books fast... but the one book I need to read for next week isn't supposed to show up until the week after that, so that just doesn't work.  So, I called Barnes and Noble and reserved it there, canceled that book on Amazon, and picked it up from Barnes and Noble.  And, well, I couldn't not look at the knitting mags and books, so I ended up picking up Interweave's Crochet magazine.  There's a really cute sweater (that I'd love to show you, but as you know I can't post pictures), that I think I might want to try making before Rustic sweater, but it is made with Rowan Big Wool, which is not cheap... I need to hunt around for a substitute, which might be hard because the gauge is for crochet...

Anyways, I have to start cleaning up around here.  Kevin's parents, sister, and brother are coming to visit tomorrow (I think his brother is coming down tonight).  Sunday we are going to see the Mets and Phillies play in Philadelphia, which would be fun if it weren't for the fact that the Mets freakin' suck!!!!

Ok, so I can post again, but pictures don't seem to be uploading.  Argh!!  I'm still working on this problem.

Welcome to Fall at kim's knitting world!  I'm ready for less humid and hot weather.  I'm ready to bring out those wonderful knitted items I made last winter.  I'm ready to make big, bulky, warm sweaters again.  And I wanna wear the new socks I've made!!!

Although Fall does bring with it the start of the semester, which means classes (both taking and teaching) that eat into knitting time.  Both September and October weekends are already booked up for us; we won't have a completely free, do nothing weekend until November.

As I do each new month... let's review the current projects...

1. Glace Shawl (formerly poncho)

2. Pink Scarf (a model for my knitting class)

3. Kevin's socks (one down, one to go)

4. Regia Rainbow socks (for me, of course!)

And projects waiting in the wings...
1. Pipi Kneestockings (waiting for needles from Kevin's socks to be unoccupied)

2. Cream socks (waiting for size 8 circs)

3. Aussie Hat (also waiting for size 8 circ)

4. Rustic Sweater (waiting for yarn to be ordered)

And finally stalled projects...
1. Lemonade Scarf

2. Strawberry Bag
